Speeding Mercedes Crashes into Cops at Marine Drive, Driver Arrested
A speeding Mercedes-Benz crashed into a police checkpoint at Marine Drive in South Mumbai early Sunday morning, critically injuring two police constables. The incident highlights the dangers faced by law enforcement personnel on Indian roads, where speeding and reckless driving are rampant.
A High-Speed Crash at Marine Drive
According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred at around 2:30 am on Sunday when a black Mercedes-Benz S-Class speeding on Marine Drive lost control and rammed into a police checkpoint near the iconic Gateway of India. The car was traveling at a high speed, and witnesses described it as a 'flying object' that crashed into the checkpoint, injuring two police constables. Account to a local resident, Rohan Jain, who witnessed the incident, said: 'The car was going at least 120 km/h when it crashed into the police checkpoint. The impact was so severe that the car's bonnet was mangled, and the constables were thrown off their feet.'
Despite the common perception that speeding is a major cause of accidents, research has shown that the majority of accidents on Indian roads are caused by factors such as poor road conditions, inadequate traffic infrastructure, and driver error, rather than speeding alone.
